On Class Size and Pupil-Teacher Interaction

All private schools make claims of small class size and low student-teacher ratios.  We really mean it.

In part inspired by the owners' experience at Oxford and in part by their tutoring hundreds of students in many subjects, Eureka School firmly believes that the attention of the teacher to the specific needs of the student is vital to success.  Most of our classes are tutorial.  This ensures that time is maximally devoted to learning.  The teacher understands the student's needs, abilities, and level of understanding, while the student recognizes the humanity of the teacher.

The student is accountable for work as there is no place to hide, yet at the same time, the learning venture takes on a much more collegial atmosphere.  When more traditional classes are employed, the goal is to create a more seminar-like environment, so peer discussion is actually fruitfully guided by an engaged and attentive teacher.
