A New Kind of School
Eureka's pedagogical philosophy creates a new kind of school. We meld rigor, individualism, and flexibility. These elements are set in the context of active, traditional teaching. Rigor means solid, college preparatory or honors classes in the required disciplines. Close attention to the topics within a subject is combined with the particular intellectual and learning needs of the student.
Within an individualized or very small class (no more than five students), progress can be directed by the pace of understanding. If students catch on quickly, the progress is fast; if difficulties arise, then understanding always trumps speed. Such flexibility allows for great efficiency in learning, provides structure and accountability, and a much shorter school day. We believe, and have repeatedly demonstrated, that students from a wide variety of learning styles and backgrounds can discover their intellectual potential and flourish in such an academic environment.
